My Ideal Minimalist Kitchen

My Ideal Minimalist Kitchen

Planning is something that’s in my nature. I love to plan. I love to make lists. And I love having ideas for the future. One thing I’ve thought about (quite often) is my ideal minimalist kitchen.

You see, some day I want to live in a tiny house OR live in a trailer so that we can travel! How cool would that be? I mean seriously, getting to travel anywhere you want AND bring your home with you?

So now you know what I dream about doing…No spilling my secret, now.

It’s going to be a while before I get the opportunity to do that, however. Which means I have time to plan. I’ve been comparing the costs of converting a skoolie or living in a trailer versus an RV.  Even better, have you ever heard of a Toyota Dolphin? Yeah, I’ve been looking at those. How fun would that be????

I’ve also planned out my minimalist kitchen for when I get to do my traveling lifestyle. It’s going to be awesome. And it will only take me a few minutes to wash every dish I own. 👌

What’s in my ideal minimalist kitchen?

Calphalon Signature Nonstick Bakeware 12-in. x 17-in. Baking Sheet, 2000603
I plan on still making the majority of our food at home, even if we’re traveling. I also happen to have an addiction to baking. (Actually, if we’re being real, I’m a stress baker. If I’m overwhelmed, I like to bake- which adds a bigger mess and more stress, but it tastes reallllly good….)

In my minimalist kitchen I will still need a baking sheet!

Victorinox 8 Inch Fibrox Pro Chef’s Knife 40520, 47520, 45520 Frustration Free Packaging

I’ve always wanted to get away with having only one knife in the kitchen. It just sounds nice, not to have lots of knives floating around. I’m not too far from it now, I only have one knife block with five knives in it.

Dexas Over the Sink Strainer Board, 11.5 x 20″, Natural/Red

This thing is awesome. As a matter of fact, I’m gifting myself this for Christmas. Right now I have a huge, clunky strainer, that has only one purpose and takes up a lot of room.

Just kidding, it has two purposes. It strains food and doubles as a hat for my preschooler. 🙄 No joke, the kid was running around with it on his head….

Pyrex Prepware 1-1/2-Quart Glass Mixing Bowl
Glass bowls are great for being able to reheat things or just use as a serving bowl. I have this one right now.

ExcelSteel 297 3-Quart Stainless Steel Non Skid Base Mixing Bowl

If you do any amount of baking, you know how nice it is to have a stainless steel bowl. And I’ve always thought the non-skid would be awesome!

Cuisinart Chef’s Classic Stainless Stockpot with Cover, 6-Quart

Back to the fact that even if we are able to travel, I want to do a lot of cooking from home. That means I need a large pot to make everything. AND, in my minimalist kitchen, I don’t plan on having a frying pan because I should be able to do everything with a pot!

Chef Series FLEX Standard Silicone Spatula 600F Heat-Resistant Flexible Silicone Turner Spatula
And the obligatory spatula…..

OXO Good Grips Nylon Spoon
….and spoons…..

Prepworks by Progressive Ultimate 19-Piece Measuring Cup and Spoon Set
I like having sets of things- it’s neater, more organized, and it makes it easy to know if you’re missing something. In a minimalist kitchen, you’ll still have to be able to measure things.

Linden Sweden Jonas Peeler Original

Some minimalists don’t use peelers- they think that peelers are a single use tool and they could use a knife for the same thing. They are right.

Buuuut, I happen to be very, very accident prone… I tried peeling something with a knife once… Good thing I had my band-aids on hand.

Crock-Pot 7-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel (SCV700SS)
Crock pots are pretty much the best invention ever. I love the convenience of crock pot cooking, and they are going to be a staple in my kitchen, well, forever.

Hiware 68 Ounces Glass Pitcher with Lid and Spout – Heat Resistant Pitcher for Hot/Cold Water & Iced Tea

I’m on an ice tea and lemonade kick. It’s hard to beat homemade lemonade or sweet tea, so having a pitcher is going to be necessary.

That brings my entire minimalist kitchen to a grand total of 13 things.

13 things in my ideal minimalist kitchen!

I think it’s completely possible. What do you think?

Update: I put the ideal minimalist kitchen to the test! Read about my experience here!

P.S. I just had to show you guys this: Is this not awesome? A small toaster oven, electric warmer, AND coffee pot? Most trailers and RV’s have an oven or kitchen of some sort, but I still think  thing this quirky thing is cool- and a space saver.
